General information
(of Latin “argentum”)
Soft metal which must be associated with other harder metals to be exploitable.
Zinc and copper are good companions which will give to silver the necessary hardness to take form (jewels, objects) but which
also will give to it its type of oxidation (blackness, or copper (green) oxidation
sometimes).
The titration of silver is characterized by the symbol "Minerva's head".
In Europe only titration with 925 thousandth is accepted, in other countries can market it in titration with 800 thousandth.
This metal can be found in the all world but the largest exploitations remain in Canada, United States and South America.
Symbolism:
Silver, by its color and its possibilities of light reflection,
is the symbol of soul often symbolized by moon.
The hidden side of the things (in opposite to the sun).
Silver is lunar. Gold is solar.
Silver symbolizes the magic side of the light and its magic action.
Used as support of magic engraved symbol, associated with certain semi-precious stones, it reinforces its therapeutic or magic actions.
Traditionnally, in patriarchal societies, silver and
its virtues were reserved for men, it supplemented them in its social
representation of solar type (confrontation of the danger, courage,
impulsiveness, physical action, quarrels, war, protection).
At opposite, Gold were dedicated to women, (in particular in Coran) because gold supplemented them in its lunar social representation (the hearth,
discretion, the virtue, action of wisdom, appeasing, teaching
action).
